Network does not converge due to large amount of CLMDBLU2 in system

Hi All,

I am using version PSS/E 34.2 to do dynamic simulations. I am including a high amount of CLMDBLU2 load models, and when the percentage of loads with load models that I include in the dynamic file increases above 25% I receive the error that the network does not converge. All my dynamic models have been checked with DOCU, and there aren't any problems. I am unsure of why I am getting the error. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

I assume you are simulating a disturbance when you get network does not converge. If so, there might be a voltage stability problem when using a high amount of dynamic load models.

Please elaborate more on when the problem occurs in the simulation. Is it after fault insertion?

The network does not converge after initialization once the simulation is running during the first time step. This is prior to any fault insertion.

This error also occurs with any test system that I use regardless of the size of the system, the error happens when between 25% and 50% of the loads are CLMDBLU2. This does not occur when I use other models such as CLODBL.

Run just 1 time step and check the voltages. Use activity DIFF (File - Compare - Powerflow Cases) to compare the actual bus voltages with the original voltages in the saved case. I guess you have problem at some load buses.

I've used DIFF and there are several buses where there are difference between the actual and original bus voltages. Do you have a suggestion for what to change in model to remedy this?

You are using a very complicated load model at many load buses. How did you get all the parameters? DOCU,CHECK is not a gaurantee of correct or decent parameters. It seems to be a nightmare to use that model. I recommend to switch to another model.

Check the Program Operation Manual, Chp. 3, Table 3-1. Standard Maximum PSS®E Program Capacities Your set up might be exceeding PSSe vars dimensions.

If so it would have been alarmed at DYRE and the exceeding models would be ignored. It can hardly be the reason for network not converging.

I have checked with the POM and I am not exceeding any limits as I am using the 200,000 bus size level.
