How to simulate reduced system inertia while integrating renewables?

From a given raw and dyr file, i have replaced some of the conventional generator models in there (such as GENROU) with renewable models, such as REGCA1. For example, for 25% renewable integration, the power output of the conventional units are reduced by 25% and a renewable unit is being added to fill in the gap in the raw file, with the corresponding model in the dyr file.

Now, to simulate reduced overall inertia of the system (which is a well-known impact of renewable integration), should i also reduce the MBASE of the conventional generator units and/or the intertia parameter in the corresponding GENROU model? Is this the correct way to do it?

The correct way of modelling decreased inertia due to decreased number of synchronous generators connected to the system is to switch synchronous generators off-line in load flow instead of scaling down Pgen for all generators.

Hey, and How could you do that? I was thinking of using psspy.gnet(). Would it be correct? By the way, do you know how to change the statism of a GENROU with PSSPY?

@Camps94: The synchronous generators should be switched off since they are replaced by renewable generation. What do you mean with "statism of a GENROU"?

Sorry, I wasnt cleared in my response. I mean..How do you switch or convert a Machine (Synchronous generator) to a renewable generator? I though I could use psspy.gnet() to simulate the renewable generator as a Negative constant load. Do you know a better way? Many thanks

You don’t convert. Synhronuos machines are taken out of service and replaced with new renewable at other locations, e.g. wind or solar plant.
