Dynamics blowing up during flat start

I'm working with the RTS-96 case, and I've been adding dynamics to it in attempts to working with islanding portion 3 from 1 and 2. To get this working I've started with just the 3rd portion in which I'm adding only GENCLS with 0 damping and differing inertias. The portion has 33 buses and the .dyr file takes for form of: 301 'GENCLS' 1 2.8000 0.0000 / 301 'GENCLS' 2 2.8000 0.0000 /

for all 33 buses with inertias in the range of 2.800 to 5.000. As the simulation goes on for about 25 seconds, the solution starts to blow up with the voltages oscillating and growing in magnitude.

Thanks

Thanks Jconto and Nihal for the helpful responses. I've stripped the GENCLS models and created my .dyr file with salient generators instead as well as adding IEEE exciters and governors. It took some tweaking, but I was able to get a flat start solution and correct responses during contingencies.

GENCLS is not a 'real dynamics' model, and its use is discouraged by NERC. So, your case migth not be a dynamic case after all. Are you adding exciters, governors, pss models as well?

Check the posting "Number of Iterations for loadflow on PSS/E" for additional suggestions.

A tested example is the IEEE39 dynamic case posted at "IEEE 39 BUS DYNAMIC SIMULATION IN PSSE"

As noted by Jconto, GENCLS are oversimplified models, and I would strongly discourage using them, especially for representing any generator under study for such a long simulation. They can be used for representing an infinite bus, when you put H and D=0. Secondly, for a 25 sec long simulation , you must have generator, exciter, turbine governor modelling, because longer the simulation time, more and more controls come into picture. If you don't have any data, begin with GENROU with Simple exititation system, (SEXS) data given in Psse documentation. Use generic governor models.
