2020-10-04 13:02:46 -0500 asked a question Dynamic models of the generating units far away from the area of interest

Hi guys,

I have a raw file which contains over 20000 synchronous generating units and has over 100 000 buses. The raw file is like really really big (like half of USA or Europe).

I should run dynamic simulations (tripping lines & generating units as well as bus/line faults, thus analyzing the voltage and rotor angle stability as well as measuring like 15 critical clearing times) in an power system area which is only a small part of the wide-area system and contains approximately 100 gen. units for which I have a good data for a fine tuning of the GENROU/GENSAL, HYGOV/TGOV1/GAST, SEXS/SCRX models of generators, turbine governors and excitation systems, respectively. The dynamic simulations and the units of interest are only limited to the area I described above.

My questions are:

  1. What data in the dyr should I provide for the generators that are not a topic of interest and will not be analysed? (I don't even have enough data for them to be properly modelled) Maybe GENCLS with a classical H=3, D=0, or maybe, model them as infinity bus by setting H=0, D=0.

  2. Should I just leave such units without any dynamic models? Does that automatically mean that PSS-E will treat them as a negative load (of course represented by I-Y Norton equvivalent).

Thank you very much!

Kind regards,

Alex

Jorge, even in the newest v35.1 there isn't the REPCMU1, even though it was mentioned to be released maybe an year or two ago.

2019-11-25 09:17:49 -0500 answered a question I need a PSSE Statcom (Facts) example

Hello,

I assume that you have to make some tests that include infinity bus (use GENCLS, H=0, D=0, Xsource=MBASE/ShortCircuitPower), then, a line, then, a STATCOM transformer, and then simply a STATCOM device (I recommend usage of FACTS device and not STATCOM as generator unit).

I don't know if the manuals in v34 have the same/similar numbering, but in v33.5 I would recommend you to:

-see 6.4.8 in PAGV1 and 5.2.1 & 6.3.16 in POM, regarding Load Flow analysis, and

-see 16.2 in Models and 24.8 in PAGV2, regarding dynamic behavior.

Kind regards!

Hello,

See 6.4.8 in PAGV1 and 5.2.1 & 6.3.16 in POM regarding LF.

See 16.2 in Models and 24.8 in PAGV2 regarding dynamic behavior.

Kind regards!

2019-08-09 08:06:50 -0500 asked a question Models library (pdf) & PAGV2 (pdf) (newest version)

Hi!

Where can I find the newest version of the Models library and the Program Application Guide Volume 2 (for the newest version of PSS)? Can someone send me any link or pdf? I just want to compare them with an older version of PSS (v33).

Thank you!

Kind regards

2019-07-29 11:09:12 -0500 asked a question How to make a ramp function during the dynamic simulation for Paux in the CBEST

Guys, Is it possible to model a ramp function (or any other function) for the Paux in the CBEST model (or any auxiliary signal) during a dynamic simulation? For example I want Paux to be Paux(t)=4MW - (1 MW/60s )* t, for 0<= t < 480 s = 8 min - automated linear decrease of the Paux from 4 MW to -4 MW in a time interval of 8 min. Is it possible?

I already did the simulation by changing the Paux with a (1/60) MW decreament every second (the plot is step-wise), but there is soo much clicking... I want to automate the process, if possible.

Thank you very much!

Kind regards,

Alexander

2019-07-29 10:52:18 -0500 asked a question REPCAU1 + REECAU1

Hi guys!

I've been trying to make a BESS dynamic model which I'm going to use for a primary frequency regulation. By using PSS-E v33.4, I have combined the next three models: REGCAU1, REPCAU1 and REECAU1 (instead of REECCU1, since I don't have that model in my version of PSS) I've got two questions:

  1. Is there any chance that I could eliminate the hard coded restriction Ipmin=0 (just before Ipcmd in the block scheme) within the REECAU1 model? In the model REECCU1 there is no such restriction since that model is genuinely made for a 4 quadrant BESS P/Q control. Any suggestions, please?

  2. Within the REPCAU1 model, after I had started the dynamic simulation and the initial conditions had been ok, I've tried to make a step change on active power by changing the Plantref - the active power reference, but I am not sure if I can use that as some kind of an auxiliary signal Paux. For example, in the LF, I have Mbase = 4 MW and Pgen=4 MW. Ddn and Dup are 0, Kp=1 and Kpi=0.0001. During the initialization, the Plantref is set to 1 (P=4 MW on Mbase = 4 MW). But, where is the problem/misunderstanding: At the time t = 1 s, I change Plant_ref to 0 and expect to get P=0, but instead of it, I get P=0.5 pu (on Mbase) = 0.02 (od SBASE = 100 MVA). I cannot see what is the problem... It is like, for every wanted active power change, I get half of it. Any suggestions, please? Some .pdf guide is welcome (except the MODELS and PAGV2 PSS help...)

The parameters are:

2019-07-19 08:38:46 -0500 asked a question Axis transform (e.g. f[pu] ->f[Hz] or P[pu] -> P[MW]) via PlotPackage and not by PSSPLT

Guys, is it possible to rescale and consequently change the units of an axis within the PlotPackage (by simply using Editing window)?

For example, I wanna change the f(t) [pu] -> f(t) [Hz) and P [pu] -> P[MW].

Thank you!

2019-06-19 02:13:34 -0500 answered a question How to control Paux within CBEST via PAUX1T (PSS-E v33.5)

Thank you perolofl!

Is there any chance that I could add the CBEST model into the list of FACTS devices? Or, maybe write a CONEC? How would that CONEC look?

Thank you in advance!

2019-06-13 05:43:42 -0500 asked a question How to control Paux within CBEST via PAUX1T (PSS-E v33.5)

Dear experts, I am trying to link the auxiliary signal model PAUX1T with the CBEST model in order to create a simple frequency primary regulator. In the .dyr file I have:

4, 'CBEST', 1, 4.0000, 1.1000, 0.90000, 1.0000, 1.0000, 0.0000, 0.0000, 0.50000E-01, 0.0000, 10.000, -10.000, 0.50000E-02/

4, 'PAUX1T', 4, 1, 7, 0.01, 0.005, -20, 4, -4 /

(I am whatching the frequency of the 7th bus)

But still, when I activate the dyr file in PSS-E, I cannot see the PAUX1T anywhere. I've been reading that many have been using such combination of models, but I don't know how is that possible, since CBEST is a generator model and not a FACTS device (or two-terminal dc line, or multi-terminal dc line, or VSC dc line).

I am looking forward for your help!

Thank you in advance!
