2018-10-11 04:55:40 -0500 asked a question If Solar Generation increases in a power system, what is the expected effect on Rate of Change of Frequency (RoCoF)?

Hi, I am getting decreased RoCoF for increasing solar generation in my simulation result. I have doubt how valid this effect is? I used a simple formula to calculate this:

RoCoF= (Change in Frequency from Nominal Value till Frequency Nadir)/ (Time Required for this change)

For example: if the system frequency is 50 Hz and the frequency Nadir is 49.5 Hz and it took 0.5 Sec to go from 50 to 49.5 Hz, then according to the above mentioned formula,

     RoCoF = ((50-49.5)/0.5) (Hz/Sec)

Can anybody please guide me about this basic queries? Thanks in advance

Hi Jconto, thanks for the response. Were you able to find my Google drive at all? Or you couldn't find the drive using the url? I had left a blank space between 'googl.' & 'com'.

Another question. When I am reducing the overall power generation of a generator, I should reduce it's inertia constant at the dynamic file as well, right? If so, then how are they related? Proportional? Like if I reduce the generation by half, I should decrease the inertia constant by half as well?

So can you please go to that drive and have a look that what's wrong exactly I am doing here? I am trying to get the frequency response after disconnecting the machine with largest generation (at Bus 201). Do I need to change any generator parameter to sync with Governor parameter?

As I am unable to place any Link or attach any file because of insufficient Karma points (I wonder know how to increase it). I have placed the link here with space between 'google & com ' thus the system doesn't identify it as a link: drive.google. com/open?id=1ULTFyc6sH8JtIbsQt1WNSUoKTGhZQAG3

Hi Jconto, Thanks a ton for directing me to that file. I have placed that governor model in my DYR file and ran simulation. But still I am not getting the frequency back to the initial state, at least closer to the initial state. I have placed the output photos and the DYR file in this Google Drive.

2018-10-04 13:56:43 -0500 asked a question Can anyone please give me an Example Governor Model?

Hi Guys, I want to incorporate governor model in my generators dynamic (dyr) file. So can anyone please share a such sample governor model which I can modify and use for any generator? It will be a great help as my frequency response of the system is going downwards after disconnecting any Machine from the system. Thanks

2018-09-28 21:52:41 -0500 commented answer How to Model Solar Battery Storage System in PSSE?

Hi Jconto, Thanks a lot for your direction. Please see my answer to your referred post as I have written my query in detail over there. Thanks for your kind help.

2018-09-28 21:51:18 -0500 answered a question Example .dyr data for BESS
  1. Shall the 'REPCAU1' details appear in PSSE Renewable Machine tab? After running the Python script or loading the dynamic data file, I have not found it?

JC: No, it doesn't.

  1. In your model (One BESS and one Classic Generator at infinite bus), what is the source for the battery storage? The classic generator?

JC: Yes, the classic generator would be the source for recharging the battery.

  1. In my model, I am trying to replace the Synchronous generators by PV generators at a particular bus. (Bus 201) Initially, for the generator, Pgen= 3375 MW and Mbase= 4000MVA. (My PSSE base MVA is 100). Then I changed the Pgen and Mbase of that generator to Pgen= 2000 MW and Mbase= 2000 MVA and added a PV generator at that bus with Pgen= 1375 MW and Mbase= 2000 MVA. Now, how I would add the BESS to this bus? Just changing the Bus number and machine ID would work? -->JC: Yes. How to determine the battery storage capacity and Pgen, MVA etc. ?

JC: Read the EPRI manuals. "SOCini – this is the initial state of charge on the battery and is a user entered value. It should be in per unit; 1 per unit means fully charged and 0 per unit means fully discharged."

  1. My ultimate aim is to introduce Renewable generators to the system by replacing the traditional synchronous generators and see the effect on frequency change and system stability.

JC: Set SOCini to 1, adjust SOCmax & SOC min accordingly

  1. For now, I am adding a Bus fault at another bus and removing it after a certain time. I have used Exciter and PSS as control mechanism. The system is recovering from the fault to it's initial state (zero level) after a certain time when the overall generation at bus 201 is equal to 3375 MW. But if I change this generation for example 3200 MW or 3400 MW, then the system is not storing back to it's initial condition after the fault. It's either going downwards or upwards slightly.

JC: perform a non-disturbance run first for every dispatch. If you get flat lines for the monitored variables, then perform the fault cases else check the log file for suspect condition warnings.

As I am unable to attach any file yet because of shortage of Karma points, I am unable to attach files or images. So I have posted my whole DYR file below. Your kind cooperation will be highly appreciated.

Hi Jconto, Sorry to interrupt in this conversation but I badly need some directions for BESS modeling in PSSE. As I am a novice in Power System and PSSE, I have some basic questions. Hope you won't mind answering them. Please see my answer below as there is character limitations here. Thanks

2018-09-26 19:44:40 -0500 asked a question Is there any control mechanism for Solar PV generator like PSS for Synchronous Generator?

Hi Guys, Can we use any control mechanism for stabilizing Solar PV generator after a fault occurance? The way we use PSS for Synchronous generator power output stability.

Thanks

2018-09-26 19:37:39 -0500 asked a question How to Model Solar Battery Storage System in PSSE?

Hi Guys,

I want to use Battery Energy Storage System in my Solar resources included power network. I have seen in this Forum that somebody suggested to use Generator as BESS where the reactance has to be higher. My query is, how high the reactance has to be? And what about the other power ratings and parameters of that generator? How I'll have to connect it with rest of the network? What will be the characteristics of the generator acting as a BESS which will define it as a battery?

Sorry for too many basic questions. It'd be a really great help.

Thanks

Yes, that option is disabled. Now can you please tell me that how to plot the derivative of the average rotor angle with PSSPLT using FUNC and Time derivative? I tried looking for the PSSPLT in the PSSE doc but couldn't get enough direction. And your second plot is 'Bus Frequency', right?

So in the 'Dynamic Simulation Options', which option shall I choose at 'Set relative machine angles'? i) Relative to machine ii) Relative to system average angle iii) Relative to system weighted average angle

2018-09-18 04:10:09 -0500 answered a question How to plot the whole system's frequency response in a single curve in PSSE?

Hi, Thanks for your guideline. I have seen in a paper where the author had plotted the whole network's frequency response through a single curve. I will be attaching the image later as I don't have the required points to attach file.

Though the author used mathematical equation to calculate equivalent system frequency (in Hz) in terms of rated MVA,Inertia Constant and frequency of ith generator. For that calculation I need to know each generator's frequency which is not available at PSSE. I can only see bus frequency, not the machine frequency in PSSE.

In my system, I have 6 GENROE generators. I think I could not make my query clear. Please ask questions as I am not proficient with PSSE yet and lack knowledge in power system analysis as well.

2018-09-17 23:06:59 -0500 asked a question How to plot the whole system's frequency response in a single curve in PSSE?

Dear All,

I have been trying to analyse the frequency response of a power system, especially after adding solar generators.

Now I want to plot the overall system's frequency response in a single curve but I am not getting that option in PSSE's 'Define Simulation Output (CHAN)' option. There I can plot the frequency responses of individual buses.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated. Please give me the detail guideline.
