Do you know a better way to an area's neighboring areas?

Hi all, I am thinking of using tie branch info to detect contiguous pairs of neighboring areas and then check each tie branch to all neighboring areas for a certain area. I haven't tried this method yet, and I will try this today and post my findings here.
