Short circuit calculation with type 4 wind turbines or PV generator

Hello, guys.

I am conducting a short circuit calculation with the existance of type 4 wind turbines. The manufacturer recommended:

The WTG should be modelled as a current source for short circuit studies. The current source should contribute a maximum of 1.2 p.u during the fault. In PSS/E the value of Zsource is obtained from the maximum short circuit current contribution. The recommended values are provided separately.

Anyone here has experienced with short circuit studies of WTG? How did you do it? I have no idea to add a current source to SC study in PSSE. I thought of using Zsource =1/ Isc_max. Is this possible?

Generators are typically represented as Thevenin equivalent voltage sources in short-circuit calculations, and not as constant current sources, which is how a Type 4 WTG should be represented. The type 4 WTG will have a short-circuit contribution of approx 1.2pu current for a large range of retained voltages at its terminals (e.g. 0.9pu down to 0pu). When I have needed to represent this type 4 WTG behaviour as accurately as I can then I have written a Python script that adjusts the value of Zsource for the generator until you get the required value of current (1.2pu). This is not ideal, but it works.

That's a practical approach. I thought of using a constant load with ILOAD 1.2pu. What do you think about it?

That's another way of doing it, but you have to replace the generator with a load when you are doing short-circuit calculations. When you want to revert to load flow calculations (where the WTG does voltage control) or dynamic simulations, then you have to swap the models again.

I have tried and it didn't work. I guess because PSSE neglect loads component when conduct short circuit analysis.

@jfconroy@Cao Huy Hello, guys. I want your help. 1. how can we output the short circuit current by PSSe and Python ? 2. how to conduct short circuit calculation? use dynamic simulation? or ASCC? 3. how to use IEC60909 (only .raw and .dyr?) need .seq? if need, how to ger .seq? Thanks a lot!
